The Sentinel offers nonprofit and other community organizations an opportunity to promote upcoming events for free in the community calendar for three days before the event. Events requiring reservations may be promoted for up to two weeks before the reservation deadline.

Events that require a purchase from a for-profit business, even if a donation is made to the organization, are not eligible for the calendar.

• 49th annual meat canning kickoff meeting — 6:30 p.m., Oct. 27, Burnham Church of the Brethren, 541 E. Freedom Ave., Burnham. Ken Litwiller, canning director from the Mennonite Central Committee will be speaker. RSVP by Oct. 19 by calling (717) 348-9577, (814) 625-2430 or (717) 250-6840. Free will offering will be accepted.

• Soup and bake sale — 11:30 a.m., Nov. 5, McVeytown Masonic Lodge, 25 N. Market St., McVeytown. Kettle cooked ham and bean and chicken corn soup. $7 per quart. Preorders recommended by calling Mick Abrashoff at (717) 363-3201 by Nov. 1.

• Fly-in, Drive-in, Walk-in breakfast — 8-10:30 a.m. at the EAA Club House, Mifflin County Airport Hanger 4. “World Famous Omelet” plus your favorite side dishes. Sponsored by Experimental Aircraft Association, Chapter 518.

• Clothes closet — 9 a.m.-noon, Big Valley Alliance Church, 30 S. Kish St., Belleville.

• Helen Detra Gift of Life memorial ride — begins at 11:15 a.m. at 4625 William Penn Hwy., Mifflintown. Registration 10-11 a.m. $20 per rider, $5 per passenger. All proceeds go to Gift of Life organ donation. Meal at Smokehouse Griddle $10 additional at end of ride.

2 p.m. at Midd-West High School, sponsored by SUMMIT Early Learning. Lunch will be available for a small fee. There will be many vehicles for children to learn about plus free books and balloon animals.

• Lewistown High School Class of 1965 luncheon —

11 a.m. at Sal-Lee’s Dream. Classmates and spouses welcome.

• Community harvest bash — 1 p.m. at Betsy’s Main Street, 159 N. Main St., Milroy. Activities include a cornhole tournament, chili cook-off, RIP tickets and 50/50 drawing. Information: (717) 437-4226.

• Coffee House at Ellen Chapel Church — Tim and Duane will provide entertainment beginning at 7 p.m. and Bridget and R.B. beginning at 8:15. Coffee, iced tea and snacks are provided for attendees. Donations accepted.

6:30 p.m. at Reedsville United Methodist Church, 60 E. Logan St. The movie being shown is “Heaven is Waiting.” Refreshments will be served.

• Sacred Heart Thrift Shop Bag Sale — 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sacred Heart, 4 N. Dorcas St., Lewistown. $5 per bag for clothing and shoes.
